Chicago and State Fair

The last part of summer our time outside has been fairly limited due to our time constraints. I am in the full swing of medical school, working as a teaching assistant, varsity scout leader, and serving in the national guard. Sandi picked up a second job. She is now working 3 times a week days at a agricultural stock brokerage and then at nights waitressing at Mama Lacona's. She also is the Young Women's president and does all the activities for her girls every week. It has been busy.

Outside of school and work we went and saw the Iowa State Fair. There was a giant cow made of butter.
We saw lots of horses, cows, sheep, pigs, and all sorts of other animals. Sandi accidently took a step into some droppings. It made me laugh, in fact I had to take a picture.
Not to be forgotten. Fairs also have yummy goodies like deep fat fried oreos. Sign me up for some heart disease!
Then there are the rides. Sandi enjoyed this one.
Now switch gears, for the last weekend of summer "aka Labor day" we went to Chicago. The worst part was all the toll booths and sitting in traffic. Des Moines is so small and traffic is great. Chicago, not so much.
On Saturday morning Sandi and I visited the Chicago temple.
Then we met up with Dan & Diane (formerly of Portland) and went to the Navy Pier.
Then up to the top of the Willis Tower for a view at night. What do you eat after an evening in downtown Chicago? Deep Dish Pizza! We went to Giordano's. Oh so cheesy!
On Sunday, Sandi and I went to Church, visited the Polish museum and ate at a quaint mom and pop polish restaurant and had some pierogi, golabki, borszcz and kopot. It was yummy. It brought back memories of the mission.

For dinner we took off to Medieval Times for dinner and a jousting and sword fighting tournament. Good times!
We did a few more things in Chicago like Shedd Aqaurium, Science Museum and Millennial Park. It was a fun place to visit.
